[BRLTTY] brltty with alva satellite 544 traveller

I'm trying to help somebody get brltty running in the terminal  
(command line) on the Mac. He is using an Alva satellite 544  
traveller. I found a reference to Alva satellite on the blinux list  
that said usb wouldn't work with some of the Alva satellites and  
brltty but serial would. Has this changed?
