If this mechanism gives key press and key release events, it could also be
used to implement braille keyboard input. This would be useful for working
with musical notation, mathematics, phonetic transcription and other
specialist braille codes.

Apparently some keyboards don't properly report the pressing and releasing of
multiple keys as braille entry requires.
