The default is for 8-dot braille to be used. You need to switch to 6-dot
braille in order to enable contracted braille. It looks like the XWindow driver
doesn't have a button for this.

That depends on which text table you're using. What's an example of what you
expect versus what actually happens?

It can be either dots 78 (underline) or dots 12345678 (block). This selection
is made via the Cursor Style item in the preferences menu.
