AARP is the American Association of Retired Persons. It's pronounced as four
separate letters.
I think I'd take these on a case-by-case basis. Remember, brltty has an
excellent translator, quite probably the best in the industry. Only slight
adjustments are needed imho.
As for not contracting words merely because they're spelled out, this would
be highly dysfunctional. Chapter titles are often given in all caps, and in
email words are sometimes written in all caps to indicate emphasis.
