It should be optional, e.g. you press a key conbination to invoke it and
again to stop it.
I see the problem to bind it to an appropriate keystroke in every
display, but I cannot offer a solution for that.

I cannot tell about its internal code, but it was optional and assigned
to a certain keystroke.
Obviously it only worked if the application uses a hardware cursor.
