If you like to use gnome, start with "knoppix desktop=gnome". This
option is available on the DVD-version. In the CD version, the default
desktop is KDE, but orca+firefox or orca+openoffice work anyways, you
can start any GTK2 application with orca support by prefixig the command
with "startorca".

But since this is not brltty-related, I'd suggest moving to the
debian-knoppix mailing list.
