A quick note on how important it is to have all the details. By reporting that 
all characters were presented as question marks, I mistakenly thought that 
meant the Chinese characters too. In fact, it was only the ASCII (or English) 
characters which were presented as questions marks. That's why it took me a 
while to realize what the problem was. It's just a reminder to all of us that 
reeporting as many details as possible, including what still works, is very 
important.
