Okay. That means that defaults can be assumed.

Have you done anything on your system which might've claimed that address for
something else? For example, might it perhaps be already bound to a virtual
serial device? You can check that by looking in /dev for rfcomm* devices. Also,
perhaps your system logs contain a hint or two.

If you don't find anything, then here's another test you could do. You can try
to manual bind your device to a serial port, say rfcomm0, with the following
command:

   rfcomm bind rfcomm0 <address>

You can then remove the binding with the following command:

   rfcomm release rfcomm0

If you can bind the device, then you can try to use it by invoking brltty as
follows:

   brltty -dserial:rfcomm0

If this works then it'll at least give you a way to use your device. It'll
still leave us with a mystery, though - why you can't access your device
directly. I'd still like to pursue that one.

There's another thing I'd like you to check. The error you're getting really
does imply that something else is already connected to the device. Could you
check if, just maybe, you already have anotehr brltty running which is? It's
also conceivably possible that the device is already in use by another
computer, mobile phone, or some such thing.
