This isn't valid syntax. Instead of -pm, you need to specify -bpm - -b is the 
option and pm is the driver type. Also, the device needs to be specified via 
the -d option - not on its own as a parameter. So, try it like this:

   brltty -bpm -dserial:ttyUSB6
