They have virtual consoles.  They just don't have the vcs* devices brltty normally uses to get special information from the consoles (attributes etc), in addition to the relevant ioctls.  IIRC there was one effort to get this working under FreeBSD but nothing seems to have come of that.  I guess it's easier to stick with the devil you know, for lack of time.  Hopefully the need will see something happen in future.

I'm not sure.  I'll give it a bit longer to manifest itself under various conditions, and take it from there.
