[BRLTTY] Braille Lite and netbook

Looking on the Internet, I learned that Ubuntu 14.04, which is what my netbook is running, comes packaged with brltty. Who knew. So in Startup Applications, I set it to start brltty a few seconds after start up. With the BLT connected to the netbook, I still get it saying "Waiting on serial device," ad nauseum. I've grown to hate that line. Clearly, I don't know what I'm doing. Either some settings are wrong or I'm not doing things in the right order. Anybody run into this?

I just don't know where to go from there. Perfect Paul keeps saying "Waiting on serial device," and the only way to shut him up is to turn off the BLT. I know I've gotten into something that is a little beyond me, but I've come this far and I usually don't give up too easily. So, if anyone is willing to take me step by step I'd be very thankful.
