RTÉ's Doc On One program is excellent!

There's no such thing as software that's compatible with screen readers. Every
screen reader is different, and there's no common interface between all of the
various screen readers and their braille device drivers. Some have tried, and
others are trying, but such a thing, at least in my opinion, doesn't exist yet.

Most screen readers only run on one platform, e.g. just Windows, just Linux,
just Android, just iOS, etc. Brltty does run on Linux, Windows, and Android,
but doesn't (at least yet) run on iOS.

Which platform are you developing on?
