USB is designed around the concept of a host connected to devices. As such, the
role of the host is to provide power and the role of a device is to consume
power. When you use a powered hub to charge your devices, the phone/tablet must
still be acting as the host in order to communicate with the devices. since the
phone/tablet is acting as a host, the hub can't provide power to it.
