[BRLTTY] speech dispatcher open failure

Okay, I can reproduce it. The failing call is:

   spd_open("brltty", "main", NULL, SPD_MODE_THREADED)

It's returning NULL without any errors being written (not even in
/var/log/messages). I'll keep looking but will definitely appreciate help from
anyone who knows speech dispatcher better than I do.
