[BRLTTY] Slightly OT: Power Braille 80 looking for a good home

Yes, I had two of these. Still have both of them, but since one belongs to my employer which is a government agency that doesn't make a habit of getting rid of stuff, I'm stuck with it. The other one's the one I'm getting rid of. The employer-owned one was purchased in 1997 and still works like a charm. My newer Freedom Scientific display has had cells go bad every 9-12 months; I'm thankful for the extended warranty. The PB display only needed to be cleaned every 3-5 years. That's good stuff for someone who uses a braille display 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

Of course, one can also argue that "they don't make them like the used to" means they don't make them with serial and parallel ports. 😊

Thanks, all, for letting me wander a bit on this list, and I do hope someone with a Linux system with serial ports can make use of this display. FWIW, it should also work connected to a USB serial adapter.

Keith

That's huge nostalgia right there. I used a PB40 for about 10 years from the late nineties to the mid-aughts. They indeed don't make them like they used to. :) S.M.
