[BRLTTY] problems since upgrading to brltty from git

Hi.  I was using version 6.3 and now I have upgraded to the latest
version from git
BRLTTY 6.4 rev BRLTTY-6.4-208-g0b273960M [https://brltty.app/]

and it seems to work fine in my virtual consoles, but under orca its
not working.  A lot of characters come out as a question mark.  For
instance, if I hit alt-f2 and type a command, they are all question
marks.  I get no speech while typing (another bug), but if I backspace
I hear the real characters.
