Hi Siena,

Press the windows key and search for device manager.

On your pc press tab to get a list all all hardware components.

If you are currently using nvda, you will find an item named freedom scientific. If you arrow right to open it, below freedsom scientific you will find your focus display

Now press the context menu or shift+f10 and arrow down to update driver (or something like that).

Select the manual option and in the next screen select I want to choose from a list of device drivers.

Press tab to get a list of device drivers. In my case I have:

Focus 2 braille display

LibUSB 1.0: Freedom Scientific [ focus 2]

LibUSB-Win32:

I select the 1.0 thing and press enter.

Now when I close NVDA and restart narrator, I have braille again.

Again, this is for USB connection. I sometimes need to reconnect the device in order for Windows to see that something changed.

Hope this helps.

With kind regards,

Henk.

Hi,

Don’t know about BlueTooth, but with USB there are three different drivers that can be connected to the display. NVDA and narrator use different versions of libusb, so I can use either

NVDA or narrator with my focus display but not both.

So when I want to use braille with narrator, I find the device, go to update driver and select the right libusb version.

As said, this is for USB, but for BT you may have similar issues.

With kind regards,

Henk.

Hello Everyone,

I hope that this email finds you all well, and I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy Holiday season, and a safe, happy and healthy new year ahead.

I recently got my new computer running Windows 11 and Narrator as my main screenreader. I also got a Focus 40 Blue Braille display, which I am trying to pair with Narrator. I managed to pair it as a Bluetooth display with NVDA, but I primarily intend to use it with Narrator instead. I got it to work for a little while, but after the recent Windows update, it stopped working. I uninstalled BRLTTY, and reinstalled it. Now, when I open the BRLTTY Configurator, select Freedom Scientific, then USB-Bluetooth as the communication port, it gives me an error that my Braille display was selected more than once, and that access is denied. I’m not sure what the error says exactly because it disappears from the screen before Narrator can read it fully. Anyone else experiencing this issue, and is there any way that I can go about fixing it? I’ve also installed the actual Focus drivers on my computer as well.

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated, I thank you all in advance for your help!

All the best, and I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Cheers,

Siena.
