That's because every messages distributed by the mailing list server has 
the "Reply-To: <brltty at brltty.app>" header entry. This means that, by 
default, the original sender doesn't receive a direct copy of replies to 
the original message. The only way to receive those replies is to be 
subscribed to the list which is a bit unfortunate.
