I don't agree. When doing it that way, your edit session gets a whole, commented out, copy of the original service unit which, ultimately, you have to do a lot of editing on unless you want to either dig through a lot of comments all the time or just maintain a whole private copy. Maintaining a whole private copy is bad, of course, because then you'll miss the updates from a package upgrade.

Using systemctrl edit also encourages you not to keep multiple changes separate from each other (i.e. treating each change as an individual feature) which lets you, then, selectively turn each one on and off (by changing its extension, e.g. from .conf to .off).

Lastly, my purpose was to help users understand what's going on rather than simply preach some way to do it which seems more magical than sensible. I think users benefit from actually understanding things rather than remaining effectively enslaved to the "experts".

I think that clearly explaining things is always the best route.
