Thank you - that solved it for the console-level instance of BRLTTY.

The issue still occurs, though, for the instance of BRLTTY that handles 
the graphical terminal via AT-SPI. I removed ~/.config/brltty, but it 
was re-created upon the next preference saving operation.

Other suggestions?
