[BRLTTY] Need help following upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04

Hello,
Following an upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 on my main system I have a number of problems, but the most pressing one is that brltty says “screen not in text mode” even though I know I am on a text console. As having braille output is the first prerequisite to troubleshooting the other problems, I would be very grateful if anybody on this list could provide pointers to getting braille back. I have been using brltty for 25+ years and have never yet seen this behaviour.
