Hi Jean Pierre,

Thanks for the info.
Let's see. Maybe someone can fix those issues.
Or find the direct problem.
Maybe it is a problem with both programs.

Greetings,
Simon

Hello everyone,
I have carried out numerous tests.
Nvda 2024 displays Brltty well but it does not work.
At home I was forced to revert to the version of Brltty 4.4.1 and Nvda 2023.3.4
You must uninstall Brltty and restart the PC.
My tests were carried out with two PCs running Windows 10 and one running Windows 11
I have two other friends who have done the same procedure as me and it works.
By installing Nvda 2023.3.4 and Brltty 4.4.1
I think there is a bug in Nvda 2024
Note:
When we install the narrator and we want to have a braille display, it is Brltty which is
proposed, and narrator will load a Brltty himself.
This seems effective to me!!
Brltty 6.5.0 never worked!!!!
All these tests were carried out with Alva Abt 380 braille displays with a USB to serial
converter.
Good day to everyone and especially to Yanick
Jean Pierre

Ceci me paraît efficace !!
Brltty 6.5.0 n’a jamais fonctionné !!!!

Tous ces essais ont été réalisé avec des plages braille Alva Abt 380 avec un convertisseur Usb vers série.

Bonne journée à tous et surtout à Yanick

Jean-Pierre

Hi Paul,

Here with BRLTTY 6.6 installed and NVDA 2024.1 it displays brltty.
But just when the Service is running.
Hm. Interesting.

Greetings,
Simon

I pretty sure that nvda 2022 and older version of nvda has brltty in the list of braille display under the setting and it does work with brlapi. However the version nvda 2024.1 does not have brltty in the braille display setting even though brlapi is running. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Thanks for your suggestion.

Hi Paul,

When you have the windows service running, nvda can detect brltty.
I guess with the portable version you can't do that or you need to run it without the -n option.

Simon

Hi,

I am using a portable version of brltty and a HIMS note taker over bluetooth serial. Since this is only braille display I have, I too can't get the USB to work. Perhaps try connection over bluetooth? Lastly, brltty is not listed in the options in the latest nvda. I hope this helps.

Hello Paul,

Downgrading NVDA to such a very old version isn't an option.
The person who would need this workaround works on Windows 11 so running the latest NVDA would be a requirement.
But it seems that also brltty seems not to be able to find the braille device in the first place.
Which braille display are you using?
I tried with the Handy Tech Active Star 40.
As far as i know this is a USB HID device.
Though i also have older braille devices which i might try which have a serial to USB converter.

Greetings,
Simon

I think that brltty does work on window but not with nvda and jaws. As far as I know brltty 6.4 is used in narrators. Lastly I use brltty 6.6 frequently with window CMD console. My suggestion is use older nvda version such as 2022. Hope it helps.

Hi.

None of our active devs really use Windows on a regular basis.
I wonder if it was a good idea to port to that platform, since that
raises expectations on the user side.
