[BRLTTY] Understanding brltty on a linux machine

Hi all,

I have brltty running on my arch linux system. At the bash prompt, if I do
Echo test

I do not see the word test. However, if I scroll up, then I can read the
command in the buffer. 

Similarly, if I write  some output from a python script to the console,
nothing happens. That is, I do not see said output in the terminal. 

I am using Fenrir at the command prompt and orca in the GUI. Braille is
working with orca. 

What am I missing on the command line?
