Just to clarify what I wrote earlier, I use the command line in 
Gnome-Terminal these days - not in virtual consoles, unless the system 
won't boot all the way to a desktop. So, yes, I've made that transition, 
and going back to virtual consoles is out of the question at this point 
for me.
