It has already been done for Android support. The key tables can even have conditional segments based on the platform that brltty is currently running on.

Also, putting the burden of developing a separate key table for each and every braille device model on every BrlAPI client is, to me, a bit much. It'd also mean that having standardized bindings for common navigation functions would go by the wayside.
That isn't true. It's just that you need to know how to interpret that code,and that differs from model to model.
