That works indeed, thanks! I seemed to remeber that it didn't. So either
I did something the wrong way when I tried, or perhaps could it be that
there was a bug that has since been fixed?

Going a bit further: I think I'd still find it very useful to be able to
pick words and accumulate them in the clipboard. Assuming this would be
of interest to others, would it require two new commands, one to to
start that mode, in addition to linear and rectangular, and one to add
by word. Does that look right?
