Hello BRLTTY list,
I am writing to report an issue with the HIMS BrailleSense 6 scroll keys.
Through some testing, I’ve discovered that BRLTTY 6.5 is the last version
where the scroll keys function correctly at least on windows, and Debian
11??. In more recent versions such as 6.7, I am unable to scroll or pan the
display in the TTY or within the BRLTTY preference menu.
I’ve been trying to fix this myself, though my methods are probably a bit
script kiddy (and likely hilarious to anyone who actually knows what
they're doing). In a desperate attempt to stay on BRLTTY 6.5, I tried
downloading the old .deb package from Debian’s archives, which predictably
exploded into a mess of dependency errors.
When that failed, I tried a Frankenstein approach: I cloned the repo and
tried to checkout the braille/hims folder from the 6.5 tag to compile it
against the current source. As you might expect, I ran into several errors,
including libpcre3 issues which I assume is because Debian 13 has moved on
to newer libraries??.
I would appreciate any pointers on:
1. Is this a known bug for the BrailleSense 6 in versions 6.5+?
2. Are there specific logs or debug flags I should run to help identify why
the scroll keys are no longer being recognized?
3. Is there a "proper" way to backport the 6.5 HIMS driver to a modern
BRLTTY build, or should I be looking elsewhere?
I apologize for any inconvenience, and I really appreciate the help!
Best regards,
Paul
