The aim of this project, apparently, was to design a text and graphic
tactile display driven by electro-rheological fluids. These solidify when
an electric current is applied.

According to the Web site and a press release issued elsewhere, the
project has reached the prototype stage: a full-page tactile array was
built, with a refresh rate of under? 10 seconds. This last point is
interesting in as much as interactive tasks requiring text input would
need a much faster refresh rate. Thus it would be interesting to know what
the refresh speed is for a single braille line, as well as the extent to
which mass production would reduce the total cost of such a device.

This project looks promising, and unlike so many others before it, it
isn't vapourware.

Linux support isn't mentioned anywhere. Also, the display is apparently
touch-sensitive.
