[BRLTTY] GPM open error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Hi, all,

I've seen posts to this list about this problem before, but they don't seem
to point to my problem. I'm running a Gentoo system, and it thus has the
current stable ebuild of brltty which at this time is version 3.8.

After installing an X server and Gnome, the following line appears in syslog
once every 5 seconds:

Aug 21 20:33:38 [hostname] brltty[921]: GPM open error: Inappropriate ioctl
for device

(Yep, 921's the pid of brltty).

Dave, you mentioned that you thought this problem was cleared up as of
version 3.8. Am I doing something else wrong? The problem definitely appears
to be coming from brltty, not from gpm. The log messages keep flowing to
syslog regardless of what virtual console currently has focus.

If it's of interest to anyone in solving this problem, I'm starting brltty
from /etc/inittab as follows:
brl::sysinit:/bin/brltty

Everything seems to work fine... it just makes for messy syslogs. :) ?And
that's the part I'd like to fix.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Keith
