How about something like:

err: contraction_table?

It's short enough to fit on most if not all displays, or the beginning 
anyway, and tells what's wrong. And if it doesn't fit it tells what to look 
for in the system log.

It could write longer messages if the panning keys wouldn't dismiss them.
