Yes. It's very probable that the distribution you're using has a package for 
subversion already, in which case it'd be much simpler to have your packaging 
system just install it. If not, you'll have to download it as you did, and 
install it manually. If all goes well, you should end up with an svn command in 
/usr/bin/.
