[BRLTTY] Contraction error and patch: Severer

Hi folks,

According to the particular subset of books in my collection, severer
should not use the ever sign. I believe this is probably correct
because the sound of the letters in question is changed; in other
words, it no longer sounds like ever.

There is question in my mind, however. On another list, a Canadian
gentleman has a fit at a large portion of the corrections I submit
there, claiming that lists of problem words he has found show
practices opposed to those I'm suggesting. At least some of these
words come from CNIB, and whenever I provide as examples lines taken
from a book other than English Braille American Edition he attacks
them on the ground that such books do not have quite the authority of
EBAE.

Specifically with regard to brltty, there is a rule in en-us-g2.ctb
which mandates the ever sign in severer. This rule could be a flat out
mistake, or it could come from such a Canadian or other list.

At any rate, none of the five examples of the word in my collection
uses the ever sign, so it seems very probable that U.S. practice, at
least, does not sanction it. And since the sound of the letters is
changed the contraction seems contraindicated.

Here are all the examples of severer among my books:
