Yes you are correct in saying is it a multi-core system. I am about to test 
out the new version you mention.

Thanks for this. Things seem to be going oddly in libusb.  Brltty itself
is not frozen, but apparently libusb is not able to work any more at
some point.  Do you happen to have several cores in your processor?
There might be threading issues in libusb, we have already seen that.
Some of these were solved in the last version, but maybe there are
others. Could you try version 4.3-3 which I have just uploaded on

http://brl.thefreecat.org/brltty/

?  It contains a hack that mitigates threading issues.
