I've noticed sluggishness in starting brltty in the past several
builds (a couple weeks or more). I've been using the Alva BC640
(firmware 2.6) all the time so whether it applies to other displays I
don't know. In my case, though, it's the braille cells that take
awhile to start responding. Since I'm on native Linux it's about five
seconds. When I give the command:

killall brltty && brltty

the first time it starts up again immediately but after that there's
the five second delay. It doesn't matter how close together the
restarts are; it just takes awhile the second and all subsequent
times.
