There are very few cases where brltty exits on out of memory. They cold 
probably all be fixed.

Yes, options like --help, --verify, and --version could be changed to return. 
That's a good portable solution.

I shall have a look at these, plus whatever exits remain after all of this has 
been done.

That still leaves us with the atexit()s. At the moment, even if we use return 
instead of exit(), brltty would still rely on them to release resources. I'll 
tackle the exits first. Maybe an idea will come while that's being done.
