Is this a new problem? In other ords, is it only occurring with the new 
develoment code?

Another possibility is that you have a new Braille Pen which doesn't even work 
with the latest official brltty release? If that's true, then it's probably 
because the newer models have switched to using the Alva protocol. Support for 
the new Braille Pens which use the Alva protocol was introduced in the 
development code a couple of months ago, but isn't in the latest official 
release.

If these suggestions don't help then please post a debug log for us to look at.
