I am 64-bit too. The OS has been 64-bit for a few versions now though I think it first there was a choice.

Cheryl: For comparison, could you please post your "uname -a" output?

Here is the output of uname -a. Note that mine is not being run as root but this shouldn't make any difference in the uname.
