The default is for brltty to only speak on demand, so that's okay, actually.
This is assuming that you haven't set Autospeak to Yes (in the Preferences
Menu).

I believe that TalkBack does speak typed characters at a slightly higher pitch.
I'm not sure if that can be customized.

That slightly higher pitch isn't what I'd describe as squeaking, though. It's
just slightly higher than normal.
