The .pc file for Speech Dispatcher was clearly being used. However, we get:

   speechd_includes='-I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include'

So, in fact, Speech Dispatcher's own .pc file isn't specifying the new include 
subdirectory.
