Your question is, at least to me, unclear. Are you asking why this is a problem 
for GenToo but not for other distributions? If so, I think Samuel has already 
given the correct answer. It seems that GenToo hasn't built the variants of 
curses (curses, ncurses, ncursesw) such that they have an explicit dependency 
on terminfo.
