It's a model that I don't think I've ever heard of. Is it an older or newer
one?

Could you please capture a debug log of when brltty is trying to connect to it?
Use -L (uppercase) to specify the file in which to capture the log, and -l
(lwoercase) to specify what to log. For example, in this case?

   -L/pth/to/logfile -ldebug,inpkts,outpkts,brldrv
