[BRLTTY] Permission errors on Linux with HID devices

Hi,

Using brltty 6.5 on Arch, brltty logs "permission denied" errors when attempting to connect to my HID display (APH Chameleon 20). This seems to happen even when run directly as root, without brltty dropping privileges. The devices in question (/dev/hidraw0 and /dev/hidraw1) are present and readable by root. Any idea what's going on here?
