The timing was unfortunate. Fedora 44 branched from Rawhide on February
3, 2026 — the very same day BRLTTY 6.9 was released upstream. Whatever
was in Rawhide at branch time becomes the baseline for the release, and
after that the Final Freeze (March 31 – April 14) limited what could
still land. So 6.8.x is what's shipping on the install media tomorrow.
That said, this doesn't mean F44 users are stuck on 6.8.x. New upstream
versions routinely reach stable Fedora releases as post-release updates
via Bodhi: the package maintainer builds 6.9, submits it to
updates-testing, and once it gathers enough karma (or hits the
time-based threshold) it gets pushed to stable. Users then receive it
through normal dnf upgrade.
So the path forward is to coordinate with the Fedora brltty package
maintainer about packaging 6.9 as an update for F44 (and Rawhide / F45
in parallel).
