Dave, thanks for patiently taking the time to explain. Luckily, I already
have a brltty.conf from my Slackware system that I created before.  I'm glad
it's easy to find in /etc these days.

I ran ./configure again this time not giving any parameters, and  it looks
like it didn't finish. The last few lines of the log are:

>#define PACKAGE_VERSION "3.7"
#define STDC_HEADERS 1
>configure: exit 1

There was no options summary.

Should I send you the whole log privately, or what would you like me to try?
I do know how to program, but I've only worked on little hobby projects of
one or two files before.
