[BRLTTY] Startup problem with brltty under Ubuntu together with Orca

Hi, Dave and Samuel,
in /var/log/messages I can't find a line that refers to brltty.
In /var/log/daemon.log I found the following:

Nov 20 13:39:00 ubuntu brltty[3855]: Festival text to speech engine.

I can't see what's wrong.
Furthermore: How do I freeze the screen to read that startup message?
