[BRLTTY] Cross compiling brltty

Dear all,

When running an AMD64 system, is it possible to cross compile brltty on
this system so that it can then be run on a 32 bits architecture ?

CC=-m32 ./configure
says that gcc can't produce executables
and
./configure --host=i386
gives the following errmr message:
checking for linkage editor program creation flags... configure: error:
linkage editor program creation flags not configured for none

Any hint about whether it's possible, what to install and how to do
would be greatly appreciated.
