[BRLTTY] alva bc640 not workingoneither usb or bluetooth

more info -- I can pair the device, but when I try to connect the device
using bluez-test input connect I get the following:

If I could solve this, I am pretty sure it would work -- and I do have
that include file on my system since there are no separate devel
packages in gentoo.
