>Will this work with the bn driver or the hw driver?
The bn driver should be used for any BrailleNote model. The hw driver is for
the Brailliant bi series.
>Will it work with usb to serial and/or usb? I'm thinking it would be usb to
>serial.
The bn driver currently only supports serial. you can use a USB to serial
adapter, of course, but you still need to tell brltty to use serial I/O.
>Do I use braille terminal or remote synthesizer? I'm thinking it would be
>remote synthesizer but on the braille note it says "for screenreaders" at the
>braille terminal menu item.
Use Braille Terminal. Remote Synthesizer is for using the BrailleNote as a
speech device.
>I have a serial cable with female connectors at both ends and the same usb to
>serial converter I've used with my braillelites. Is this correct?
A serial cable which has a female connector at both ends implies that it's a
cross-over (or null-modem) cable, but that's not necessarily true. Do you know
which type of serial cable it is?
I don't recall what kind of connector is on the BrailleNote itself. Does its
documentation specify what kind of serial cable should be used?
>Is there something else I need to do, beyond the questions I've asked, to get
>this working. I'm using it with my Mac in terminal with screen. I sort of
>thought this would just "plug and play" so to speak but I think I was wrong!
There's another possible complication. There's a new KeySoft release which
brltty doesn't yet support. It could, of course, but it doesn't because I
haven't yet had access to a device which is running the new KeySoft protocol.
Which release of KeySoft is on your BrailleNote?
