What do you mean "does not start automatically?"
How did you install the system?
To repeat my question: Is there a BRLTTY process running?
Could you please check with "ps auxw|grep brltty"?

I thought you can only call /etc/init.d/brltty through sudo.
I am confused.  It would be easier to help you, if your answers
were a bit more coherent.

Again, I am not sure how lucky you can get with that version.
It might work, but I remember a lot of troubles in the early time when I
started to use my HumanWare.  I guess you will want to upgrade BRLTTY to
a more recent version.
