The quick answer is that configuring with --with-speech-dirver=-es should work.

The longer answer is a question: Are you saying that it's simply complaining
that it can't build it or are you saying that it actually does try to build it
and you're getting compile errors? If the ubild is actually failing then could
you please post (as an attachment would be fine) a log of how it's failing?
